· Healthy Marriage Demonstration Program (Healthy Marriage MATTERS) - $550,000 annually x 5 years (2006-2011)
Promotion of healthy marriages through a) a local media
       campaign, 2) a high school course curriculum, and 3) partnerships
       with 
non-profits and state agencies to encourage healthy marriage
       and affect policies. 
[U.S. Service Area: 11 counties in northeastern
       North Carolina]


·Compassion Capital Fund Demonstration Prog.(Compassion Capital North Carolina) - $1.1 million annually x 3 years
        Training and grants for faith and community-based agencies to build 
        internal organizational 
capacity.  [U.S. Service Area: North Carolina
        and Pittsylvania County in Virginia]

 

·  Upward Bound Program (PRAISE ) - $379,000 annually x 4 years

College preparatory program for high school youth. Offers college
        residential experiences in the  summer.
       [North Carolina Service Area: Halifax and Warren Counties]

·  Upward Bound Expansion - $85,000 annually x 3 years

Additional funding available to existing Upward Bound projects with
        high numbers of low-income student.

· GEAR UP - $800,000 annually x 5 years
College preparatory program for whole grade levels, beginning in 7th grade. Scholarships are available.

 

· Middle School Drug Prevention Safe Schools Coordinators - $270,000 annually x 3 years

Educational program for middle schools to prevent substance abuse
        among students.  Additional Counselors.

· Adolescent Family Life (CLIPPERS) - $250,000 annually x 5 years

Abstinence-education program to prevent unplanned and unintended
        teen pregnancy.

· Drug-Free Communities Support Program (Systems FREE) $100,000 annually x 3 years
Community coalitions to reduce substance abuse among youth.  Involves nine (9) community partners.

· Effective Alternative Strategies (RECASST) - $1 million annually x 3 years

Educational connectivity for K-12 students who have been suspended
        or expelled. Prevention.   Alternatives.

· School Drop Out Prevention (DO DROP IN) - $400,000 annually x 3 years

Prevention and educational services in schools to reduce drop out
        behaviors.
[North Carolina Service Area: Halifax and Vance Counties]

· 21st Century Community Learning Center - $800,000 annually x 3 years

After-school programs for community involvement in education using
        school facilities, faculty, and resources.

· Technology Opportunity Program  -  (Cutting Edge) - $260,000 annually x 3 years

Interactive, digital technology, equipment, and connectivity to reduce
        high school dropout rates.

· Parent Assistance Center- $700,000 for one (1) year
Parenting and educational services for families with children ages-- birth to 5 years old. School readiness. [North Carolina Service Area: Durham, Halifax, and Northampton Counties]

The U.S. Departments of Education, Health and Human Services, and Commerce  (Washington, DC) are principle funding sources.
